New T. J. Hughes retail store opens in Sutton, Greater London
PC Flooring Ltd is pleased to announce its association with the newly opened T. J. Hughes retail store in Sutton, Greater London. Tuesday 20th September saw the official opening of the new discount department store in the Times Square shopping centre, Sutton. Mayor Councillor Lesley O’Connell, Store Manager Brian Chapman and the shopping centre’s canine mascot ‘Toby’ cut the red tape in front of a crowd of eager local shoppers.
T. J. Hughes is a discount department store specialising in home and fashion, fragrance and cosmetics. T. J. Hughes first started trading in 1912 in Liverpool and since then has continued to expand; the company now trades from 1.3 million square feet of retail space with 39 department stores nationwide.
PC Flooring was contracted by IFS Ltd to apply a 75mm isolated Mapei Topcem screed across the 3,500m² floor area of the Sutton store, one of the 6 new retail outlets T. J. Hughes is opening nationwide this year.
Steve Price, Building Product Manager for Mapei (UK) Ltd comments, “Topcem is a high performance fast drying screed which requires a great deal of skill and technical expertise to install correctly.” The floor was in a poor state at the start of the project and PC Flooring worked extremely hard to bring it up to the condition suitable for trading.
Ian Hammond, Director of PC Flooring states, “The T. J. Hughes project with IFS called for a high quality screed application to achieve the finished results that the demanding retail consumer market requires.”

PC Flooring lays the way for Olympic Glory
The Theropod dinosaurs once called it home and now the Osprey Quay is sure to be colonized
by thousands of competitors of a very different kind all vying for Olympic glory. On 6th
July 2005 the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy heard that London had been awarded
the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games and that the newly built Centre of Excellence
would be at the heart of the sailing events.
In 2004 the Academy was awarded over £7.85m in funding to create the new world-class facility
complete with pontoons, slipways and training centre. PC Flooring (Southern) Ltd, a highly regarded
flooring specialist in the region, was awarded the contract by Dean and Dyball to lay the screed

four weeks and involved the application of a fibre reinforced Isocrete K Screed to the area.
Ian Hammond, director of PC Flooring comments "We are very proud to have worked in partnership
on this prestigious project. The team strived to ensure that deadlines were met and that the work
was of the highest standard".
The Academy building was officially opened in June 2005 by HRH
The Princess Royal, President of the Royal Yachting Association. The day
was celebrated by local school children and celebrities
taking part in a variety of activities along the spectacular
coastline.
The regeneration of the disused Naval Air Station site has also contributed positively to the
development of the Portland area in general. Ian Hammond comments "The new sailing academy is a
great facility for both professionals and the local community to enjoy for many years to come".

P C Flooring Ltd partnered with Rok to complete contract for project STAX, the Gatwick South Terminal Arrivals extension
P C Flooring Ltd has partnered with Rok for the application of a specialist
floor screed system in the extension of BAA's Gatwick South Terminal Arrivals building
the UK's second busiest airport.
P C Flooring has worked on a number of airport projects prior to winning this £170,000
contract, including Snowbase at Heathrow Airport in 2004 and work with Singapore Airlines
and has also partnered with Rok and Taylor Woodrow on several other occasions.
This particular project, STAX, at BAA's Gatwick South Terminal required specialist
knowledge and an experienced team to complete the work to the highest standard and to
fit into the schedule of the project as a whole. The work included the preparation of
the flooring surface through shotblasting followed by the application of two coats
of Mapei Primar MF surface damp proof membrane. A self-levelling cementitious screed,
Mapei Ultraplan Maxi, was then pumped over the 3500m² floor surface.
This work had to be completed in a two week period.
Ian Hammond, Managing Director of P C Flooring states "STAX was a challenging project
which we completed in the given timescale, it has been good to partner with Rok and
Taylor Woodrow again on such a well managed and efficient site".
The extension is due to open in early summer in time for the peak travelling season.
